1. Who we are
DebateGuard is operated by DebateBogdan ("we", "us", the "Seller"), trading as DebateGuard. We act as the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at contact@debateguard.com.
2. Data we collect
- Account: email address and authentication info (when you sign up).
- Audio: the microphone is used locally to transcribe the debate in real time. Transcript fragments may be sent to AI models for fact-checking.
- Saved content: debates you choose to save to history (transcripts, alerts, scores).
- Billing data: when you subscribe to Pro, Paddle (our Merchant of Record) collects your payment details directly. We only receive a customer ID, subscription status, and last 4 digits / card brand — never your full card number.
- Technical telemetry: minimal logs for debugging (request timings, error codes, IP address). We do not use advertising tracking cookies.
3. Purposes and legal bases
We process your data on the following legal bases (UK/EU GDPR Art. 6):
- Performance of a contract — to provide accounts, run real-time fact-checking, save your debate history, and deliver the Pro subscription you purchased.
- Legitimate interests — to secure the Service, prevent abuse and fraud, debug, and improve product quality. We balance these against your rights.
- Legal obligation — to keep tax and billing records and respond to lawful requests from authorities.
- Consent — for any optional communications you opt into (e.g. product updates). You can withdraw consent at any time.
4. Mobile permissions
- Microphone: required for core functionality. You can revoke the permission from your phone settings at any time.
- Internet: to send transcripts to the AI service.
5. Third-party processors and recipients
We share data with the following categories of recipients, only as needed:
- Paddle.com — our payment provider and Merchant of Record for all Pro subscriptions. Paddle handles checkout, billing, sales tax/VAT, invoicing, subscription management, refunds, and chargebacks. See Paddle's Privacy Notice.
- Lovable Cloud — database, authentication, and storage hosting.
- Lovable AI Gateway (Google Gemini / OpenAI) — processes fact-checking requests.
- Cloudflare — delivery infrastructure and SSL.
- Google AdSense — serves ads on free pages; may set cookies subject to Google's policies.
- Professional advisers and authorities — where required by law (e.g. accounting, lawful requests).
6. International transfers
Some processors above are located outside the UK/EEA (e.g. the United States). Where this happens, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or applicable adequacy decisions.
7. Retention
Account data and saved debates are kept until you delete your account. Unsaved session transcripts are not persisted on the server. Billing records held by Paddle and by us are kept for as long as required by tax law (typically up to 10 years). Logs are kept for up to 90 days, then deleted or anonymised.
8. Your rights
Subject to local law (including UK/EU GDPR), you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port your personal data, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can withdraw consent at any time and you have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority. Send requests to contact@debateguard.com; we respond within one month.
9. Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures — including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), encryption at rest for the database, access controls, and least-privilege server credentials — to protect your data.
10. Cookies
We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. Paddle and Google AdSense may set their own cookies on pages where they appear; you can manage these via your browser settings.
11. Minors
The Service is not intended for people under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
12. Changes
We may update this policy. The current version is always available at /privacy. Significant changes will be announced by email or in the app.
